Resize Video Online for Vertical, Square or Landscape

Resizing a video changes the shape of its frame. Choose the aspect ratio you need, then decide whether to preserve the full source picture or crop it to fill the new frame. Watch the whole clip before exporting.

Choose 9:16, 1:1 or 16:9 for the project

A 9:16 frame is vertical, 1:1 is square and 16:9 is landscape. The original option follows the source shape used for the project. Choose the shape for where the result will be viewed rather than assuming that changing a filename or output height changes its proportions.

Aspect ratio and resolution are different. Ratio controls the frame’s shape; the selected export height limits the output dimensions. A 1080p setting does not recover missing source detail. Make a short test export if the destination has specific dimension or codec requirements.

Keep the whole frame or crop to fill it

Fit keeps the entire source visible and can leave space around it when the shapes differ. Fill uses a centered crop to cover the new frame, so parts of the source may be outside the output. Neither choice is automatically best: a screen recording often needs its edges, while a centered portrait may suit a crop.

Inspect the subject, important text and any on-screen controls. A landscape demonstration converted to a narrow vertical crop may lose the buttons that explain the action. In that case, keeping the full frame can be more useful than removing the empty area around it.

Make the project 9:16 and keep the whole source frame visible. Do not crop the sides.

Check subjects that move across the frame

A crop that works on the opening frame can fail later when the person walks toward an edge or the camera pans. Play from the beginning to the end and inspect every clip in a sequence, especially when their subjects occupy different positions.

The current fill mode is a centered crop, not automatic subject tracking or a custom animated crop path. If the important action leaves the center, choose fit or use footage that is suitable for the intended shape. Do not assume the agent can follow a person throughout the recording from sparse sampled frames.

Set this video to a square frame with a centered crop. Keep the playback speed and audio unchanged.

Review text after changing the video shape

Timed text is drawn in the output frame, so changing the shape changes the space available for its layout. A long title that works in landscape may wrap across several lines in a vertical result. Review its size, position and duration over the moving footage.

Check source text as well as added text. A centered crop can remove captions already burned into the recording, slide headings or product labels. Added layers cannot restore details that have been cropped out of the source picture.

Check framing on each clip in a sequence

The project uses one output shape, while individual clips can have different source proportions and fit settings. A landscape clip followed by a vertical clip may show different surrounding space under the same project ratio. Inspect the transition between them rather than judging only the first clip.

Choose fit or fill for the clip you are actually reviewing. Selecting the wrong clip before a framing request can leave the intended source unchanged. If an AI result affects the wrong material, undo it, select the target and repeat a narrower instruction.

Export the new frame without inventing detail

Choose the supported output format and maximum height, then keep the tab open through encoding. Output dimensions respect the source and project settings. Raising the maximum setting above the source resolution does not add detail to a low-resolution recording.

Open the finished video in a player and inspect the edges, text and sound. If the file will be used in a mobile layout, watch it at a similar viewing size. Keep the original and a project backup so you can make another ratio version without working from an already cropped export.

Frequently asked questions

Can I make a landscape video vertical?

Yes. Choose 9:16 and then fit or fill. Fit retains the entire landscape image; fill crops its sides to cover the vertical frame.

Does resizing improve video quality?

Changing the shape does not recover source detail. The editor limits output dimensions by the original footage and selected export setting.

Will the crop follow a moving person?

No. The current fill mode centers the crop. It does not automatically track the subject or animate a custom crop path.
